4. Physics Principles & Rules of Thumb
Opposite-Sign, Same-Flavor (OS-SF) Rule: Neutral vector bosons ($Z$) decay into OS-SF pairs ($e^+e^-$ or $\mu^+\mu^-$). Mixed flavor pairs like $e^+\mu^-$ cannot form a $Z$.
Higgs 2-Pair Rule: A Higgs candidate ($H \rightarrow ZZ^* \rightarrow 4\ell$) is composed of **two OS-SF pairs**: $4e = (e^+e^-)(e^+e^-)$, $4\mu = (\mu^+\mu^-)(\mu^+\mu^-)$, or $2e2\mu = (e^+e^-)(\mu^+\mu^-)$.
Automatic $p_T$ Sorting & Background Filtering: The app ranks all tracks by $p_T$. If a pair of OS-SF leptons has $p_T \gg p_T(\text{other leptons})$, the lower $p_T$ tracks are treated as soft background/pileup.
MET Threshold: MET above $\sim 25\text{ GeV}$ indicates an invisible neutrino ($W \rightarrow \ell\nu$).
CIMA Constraint: Select exactly 1 primary process per event.
